In this issue of Be Well, we explore the benefits of unplugging. We also share how to get low-cost hearing aids and stay safe in the sun.

Stay Safe in the Heat

Drink Water:

Drink water often, even if you are not thirsty.

Use Sunscreen:

Use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Put more on every two hours if you are outside.

Cover Up:

Wear a hat and light-colored clothes to stay cool.

Recharge Your Mind by Unplugging

The "Blue Light" Factor:

Did you know the light from your phone mimics sunshine? This tricks your brain into staying awake. According to UCLA Health, 90% of people use a device right before bed—but those who "unplug" for just 60 minutes report deeper sleep and more energy the next day.†

Create a Screen-Free Zone:

The Mayo Clinic suggests keeping your bedroom for sleep only. By swapping your tablet for a physical book or magazine tonight, you allow your mind to wind down naturally.†

Try a "Digital Sunset":

This July, challenge yourself to put the phone away as the sun goes down. Engaging in "analog" activities like puzzles or reading physical books helps strengthen your focus and reduces evening anxiety.

The Power of Pets

Did you know dog owners are 34% more likely to meet weekly walking goals?‡ Beyond fitness, pets like Jackson provide joy and companionship.

Meet Louann & Jackson:

Louann A., a Clover member since 2026, found her Maltese mix, Jackson, after he was rescued from the floodwaters of Hurricane Ian. While Louann provided the safe home, she says it was Jackson who truly rescued her. Now a neighborhood favorite, Jackson is a joyful reminder of the deep bonds rescue pets bring to our lives.
